How to Get Your FAQs Straight
How to Get Your FAQs Straight
Boost Your Website’s Visibility
How many questions do you get from your clients, your prospects, your website visitors — that sound basically the same every time?
If you’re thinking “too many” (or even “some”), here’s something to consider adding (or improving) on your site right away if you don’t have one: a FAQs page.
Why it’s worth your time
When done well, a FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) page is one of the most under-used, under-leveraged pieces of real estate on a website. Here’s what it does for you:
- It gives visitors immediate answers to the things that stop them from saying “yes.” They don’t have to dig, wait, or pick up the phone. (That improves their experience.)
- It sends better signals to search engines (and the AI engines crawling your content): questions + answers = long-tail phrases, voice-search style queries. That can lead to better visibility.
- It works behind the scenes for you: fewer repetitive “how much does this cost?” or “how long does it take?” emails. A good FAQ deflects some of those.
Tips for doing it right
Where to start and what to consider:
- Start by mining the questions your clients actually ask.
Look through your inbox, your chat logs, your voice-calls: what keeps coming up? Those are gold. Generic questions = okay. But, ideally, you’ll spot patterns. - Use real-language questions (not just “Q: What services do you offer?”).
Mirror what people type or speak. - Organize by topic if you have many services.
This makes it easier to scan. - Keep answers clear, concise—but enough detail to help.
A short paragraph or bullet list is fine. But if the question is complex, link to a deeper blog or page. And yes—you should sometimes go deeper. - Know when to go deeper.
Here are a few rules of thumb:
- If a question comes up very often and the answer is more than just a sentence, create a dedicated page or blog post and link it from the FAQ.
- If you have a niche audience (say, wineries, small creative agencies, local business) you may build a section for that niche.
- If the FAQ page begins to feel unwieldy (lots of questions, many long answers), you might consider splitting into multiple FAQ pages or a full “Knowledge Base.”
- Don’t bury it. Make sure people and engines can find it.
Link to the FAQs page from your homepage footer, main menu, and service pages. Make sure it’s visible. Use a clear URL slug (e.g., /faq or /frequently-asked-questions). - Review and update regularly.
Your business changes. Services change. Pricing changes. Make sure the FAQ stays current. If you keep getting the same question despite it being in your FAQ, that’s a sign the answer may not be clear—or easily found.
Why this matters for your clients
A well-planned FAQ:
- Builds trust (shows you know your stuff, anticipate concerns)
- Improves conversion (answers objections before they become objections)
- Leverages SEO (captures “how to” and “what if” style queries)
- Frees up time (less repetitive client questions)
If you have a lot of customization, niche services, or complex bundles, the FAQ is even more important—you’ll need to reassure and clarify.
Why it matters for AI Overviews and AI searches
Both Google and AI engines, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and more, now search site FAQs to fulfill query requests. If you want to be cited in results, this is a necessity.
If the task seems daunting, just begin with a few questions, adding more days or weeks later as time permits you to revisit the project.
Sample FAQ questions to get the juices flowing
Here are 10 questions to begin addressing creation of a FAQ list:
- Q: “What exactly does [Your Company/Service Name] include in the [service/product]?”
A: “We provide [brief overview of core components: e.g., consultation, design/build, implementation, support]. You’ll receive [deliverables] during the project. On your end you’ll need to provide [inputs: content, materials, feedback] at [key milestone(s)]. If you require [optional extra features], we will outline those in the agreement.” - Q: “How long will it take to complete [the service/product]?”
A: “For typical projects of the type [X], our timeline is about [Y weeks/months] once we have all required materials. More complex projects (e.g., [list of complicating factors]) may take [longer timeframe]. We’ll confirm a schedule during our kickoff meeting and update you as the project progresses.” - Q: “What is the cost to get started with [service/product]?”
A: “Our pricing depends on the scope: things like [number of pages/features/complexity/integrations] affect the cost. We’ll carry out a discovery call (or questionnaire) to understand your needs, then send a clear estimate. A deposit of [percentage or amount] is required to begin, then [milestone payments/final payment] at completion.” - Q: “Will I be able to manage or update [service/product] myself after delivery?”
A: “Yes — we build the solution so that you (or your team) can handle basic updates to [content/images/settings]. We include [training/documentation/support] so you’re comfortable. If you prefer, we also offer an ongoing support or maintenance plan to handle updates, security or enhancements.” - Q: “Will [service/product] be optimized for [key goal, e.g., performance, search visibility, user experience]?”
A: “Absolutely — we design and build with [list of optimization goals: e.g., mobile responsiveness, load speed, accessibility, SEO‑friendly structure] in mind. If you want deeper work (e.g., detailed keyword research, content strategy, ongoing optimisation), we offer that as an additional service.” - Q: “What types of clients, industries or business sizes do you work with?”
A: “We partner with [client profile: e.g., small businesses, non‑profits, agencies, startups] across industries such as [industry list or leave blank for fill‑in]. Our process is designed to be flexible so whether you’re [smaller/just starting] or [established/expanding], we can tailor the scope accordingly.” - Q: “What happens after [service/product] is delivered?”
A: “Once delivery is complete, we perform [final checks/training/hand‑over]. You’ll receive [list of deliverables: credentials, documentation, user guide]. Then we stay available for support: if you need changes or additions later, we’ll discuss an upgrade or maintenance plan. We’ll also monitor [metrics/performance] for a short period to ensure everything is working as planned.” - Q: “What do I need to prepare or provide before we begin?”
A: “You’ll need to provide [list: e.g., existing brand assets/your goals/target audience/content/images/logos]. If you don’t have those yet, that’s okay — we can help with [optional services: copywriting, photography, sourcing imagery]. The sooner we have these materials, the smoother and faster your project will progress.” - Q: “If I’m not entirely sure what I need, can you help me define it?”
A: “Definitely — we include an initial discovery session (or consultation) where we discuss your business goals, audience, budget, and timing. From that we’ll recommend the best approach (basic, advanced, niche), so you’re confident in the path ahead and know what to expect.” - Q: “What support or warranty do you offer if something goes wrong?”
A: “We include [warranty period/support window] after delivery where we fix any bugs or issues at no extra charge. After that, you can choose from our support/maintenance packages or request ad‑hoc assistance. If you’d like priority response or custom support, we offer a [premium plan] for that.”
