What’s The Morning Show?

Broadcast live every weekday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Pacific Time.

It’s talk radio, with a variety of guest segments every 20 minutes.

KSVY is a non-commercial, community radio station for the benefit of Sonoma Valley listeners.

Its mission, in part, is to bring the listener the tapestry of life in the Sonoma Valley by providing live radio presentations (and TV on its sister station SonomaTV) of vital community and government meetings, town halls, debate forums, and other matters of community interest.

📻  About the Show  🎙️

With a mix of local and long-distance guests, the show’s participants include business owners and executives, local government officials, nonprofit directors, authors, musicians and more. If guests can help the Sonoma Valley community, spreading the word via the Morning Show may be a great way to connect with Sonomans.

Some shows are structured with a single theme (climate change, health/wellness, affordable housing) while others offer an eclectic mix of guests and topics.

I book guests based upon their fit to our audience and station mission (see above). I also engineer and host the show (with periodic guest co-hosts). It gets busy!

Frequently Asked Questions

KSVY’s web staff have limited resources. As a web designer myself, and the one who books guests on my show, it’s easiest to address questions here. Cornucopia Creations is my website and graphic design company. Feel free to poke around!

You can see some of the requirements in the information higher on this page. Bottom line: Do you have something to say? Are you articulate? Is your information valuable to Sonomans? Then you’re likely on the right track.

The FCC prohibits bad language. No swearing, no “bad words,” and no mention of a specific price. Also because KSVY is a nonprofit community radio station, it is prohibited from selling. You should not say, “Check out my product,” or “Buy my service,” or “It’s only $19.95.” You can suggest listeners learn more on your website, social channels, phone number, email. But the bottom line is to be helpful to listeners and not sound as if you are promoting.

You cannot offer free tickets “to the 12th caller” or to someone who emails you. These offers are available only on commercial radio stations. Not KSVY.

The show is usually booked out approx. 8 weeks. There are exceptions and (of course) last minute cancellations. Just ask.

All guests local and long-distance appear via Zoom or call in. (Audio quality is best on Zoom.) Once scheduled you will be sent the Zoom link and phone-in number. Confirmation reminders are sent automatically by the KSVY scheduling system approximately 72 hours ahead of your appearance. Due to the pandemic, in-person guest appearances are prohibited for health safety purposes.

Please note: Only the audio is broadcast from Zoom. You can appear in your jammies, or by the pool. No need to put up a pretty background or wear makeup. 😉

A great conversation! How do you guarantee that? Start with solid preparation:

  • Do you have a speaker sheet? This may include the highlights – name, business or book (or album) title and details
  • What’s your key message in 1-2 sentences?
  • Include your bio. How long? The longer your bio, the less time we have to talk about your topic. A 2-3 sentence bio is just about right so we can get to your message.
  • Details – Do you have a bullet list of key points you’d like to address? Or, do you want to provide a list of questions for me to ask you? I’m here to make you look good. Provide the tools to hit the points you believe are important.
  • Time – Remember you’ve only got approx. 16 minutes for your segment. Use the time wisely.
  • Ending – I’ll repeat your name and contact information (and/or book title) to ensure listeners are reminded. You may also wish to prepare a brief closing statement under 30 seconds.

Friend me on Facebook and/or Instagram. I usually only have time to promote the show with one post on Sunday ahead of the Monday show. Feel free to cross-post or share my post to your own friends, fans and followers. If we’ve connected on these social channels I will attempt to tag you in the post. I also recommend sending me related artwork to include in these posts in advance. This may include your headshot, business logo, book cover JPEG, etc.

I also tag KSVY in the post. Find the station on Facebook and Instagram.

Of course! Listen to any weekday Morning Show, from 8-10am, live at ksvy.org. (Tuesday through Friday are hosted by others.) Or, listen to one of my past shows at the sample list below.

Sure! You can either view my About page, or if you’re looking for a quick overview, view/download my media kit.
